Terrible food and lacking charm, despite good service. This was our first trip to Steamboat. With a lot of restaurants to choose from for Valentines we messed up picking this one. We thought the "old barn" atmosphere would have rustic charm but it was simply old, dusty and unappealing. The employee's friendliness and our server's enthusiastic attitude were the ONLY positives. The food was dreadful!!! We both ordered the Mahi-Mahi special which included blackened Mahi, steamed green beans, salad bar and rolls. We eat Mahi at least once a week (grill it at home) as well as steamed green beans so know well what both can, SHOULD, taste like. The seasoning was flavorless & unmemorable. It was undercooked with a poor, mushy, unappealing texture -- disgusting really; I did not finish mine. If I'd thought it would have improved the experience I would have sent it back but doubted the chef knew how to make it better as both our plates were done the same way. The green beans were undercooked as well - "rubbery" and also flavorless. (Hint to the chef: try a little lemon zest.) Salad bar was ok; the chilled plates were a nice touch, but I'd describe it as old school and boring with limited dressing options. We considered ordering wine but opted for tea and diet Coke instead; the tea was bad so we asked for another cola in its place. We couldn't leave soon enough; it was an overall extremely disappointing dining experience. Kudos to our server, "Jack" who was pleasant, positive and efficient and the only bright spot of the meal. We won't let one poor meal leave a "bad taste in our mouths" about the amazing town of Steamboat, but our next trip will not include a meal at Ore House!

Overpriced. Food just okay. Service impersonal and slow. We felt invisible. Very disappointed after reading these comments.

Excellent steak house! I had a steak and my wife had the trout. Both were terrific. Don't pass up the peach cobbler either.

This place rocks. Make reservations I eat here every time I'm in town. There are other steak places but I like this one the best and they even have a tasteful salad bar.

Welcoming family atmosphere and great warm meal for a cold evening with friends. My Santa Filet was good, slightly overcooked, but tasty. Calamari appetizer was not great, but the tuna was a hit. Lots of food and good service. The birthday dessert was a nice touch and the % off for your age is humorous. Would recommend for all types of groups.

We reviewed many different places before deciding to have dinner here tonight and we def made the right decision. They had an amazing sunset special from 5 to 6 which included an entree with 2 sides, cinnamon rolls, bread, and a salad bar for $16.99. I decided on the trout ( which was amazing) and my boyfriend got the 8 oz top sirloin( which was cooked to perfection). We had to top it all off with apple cobbler which was delicious! We are both in the industry and blown away by this restaurant and what u get for your money. Our server was very attentive and delightful which completed the evening. The atmosphere is laid back and casual with an old town steamboat feel. If you are in town and need somewhere to go you def need to check this place out we will be back for sure!!

Love this place! I've never had a bad meal. The service is great. It is a real treat to eat here. You can get steak, seafood, etc.

This place was great. I had a 1/2 rack of ribs, with their special house potatoes, and beans. Each meal comes with a salad bar. Salad bars normally creep me out but this one was ok. We got calamari for an appetizer and the sauce was delicious. The house wine was good too. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. The ribs were delicious. And if you go, get their special house potatoes. It was so good!

Really good steak! However, it's not 5-stars because the first time they overlooked it. :-(. Definitely though, try the house potato and the fresh cinnamon rolls!

This place is great. Came here with a large party and there were a couple mix ups with the kitchen. Very quickly fixed and had some complimentary dessert. Great service! Great food! Will be back next time we are in Steamboat.

Weather permitting....SIT OUTSIDE! It was so lovely and quiet! We ordered steaks and "us Texans" know a good steak when get one, and these were great. The salad bar was fresh and had a big selection and was very filling. The cinnamon rolls and rolls were scrumptious! I was not a personal fan of the house cheese potato thing and wish I had just stuck with the baked potato, but it was ok. I will definitely come here again.

Excellent meals and service. I had seafood special (soul) and my wife had steak tips, both excellent. Also loved the salad bar.

Service at first was slow, but got better. Taylor took really good care of us. We started with the sesame crusted ahi, it was wonderful. We both enjoyed the salad bar, lots of yummy choices! I had the Steak Ore House filet which was topped with crab meat and a lovely bernaise sauce, delicious! I added a lobster tail which was cooked perfectly, loved it! I had the house potato which was amazing. Hubby wanted the Elk loin, but they were out . He had the ribeye instead, it lacked seasoning and had too much gristle and not enough fat. He had the scallops with it and they were fabulous! The baked potato was not very hot and unremarkable. We took a brownie sundae to go. The brownie was perfect, not too sweet but super chocolaty. They are closing for a month after tonight (april 12th).

The only thing about this place that deserves 5 stars was the service. Both my fiancé and I both ordered the sirloin. I've had a better sirloin at Texas Roadhouse for way cheaper. Also, ordered a full pound of crab legs & a lobster tail. $100 just to add those two. And again, I've had just as good seafood at a chain restaurant. Also, was really loud with numerous large parties in one small area. Hard to enjoy a quiet birthday dinner just the two of us. Even though we mentioned it was my birthday, which I don't expect anything, but nothing was offered. Food was good, but I would not dine there again. Definitely NOT worth the money.

My fiancee and I always enjoy dinner here whenever we happen to be in Steamboat. We have tried a variety of entrees and have been pleased with everything we've ordered. The house potatoes are a great treat! Service is always great and the atmosphere is inviting as well!

  • Wil R.

Great service, cool atmosphere, average food. The prime rib was cooked perfectly, it was really tender, however, it just didn't taste like anything. The salad bar was a little above average and the baked potato needs some work. All in all I would recommend, I think I'll get a steak next time.

I've been coming here since the 80's and it remains one of my favorite restaurants in the state. Atmosphere is fabulous, the food is always great and the service is normally excellent. I was anxious to bring my daughter and mom who had never dined here. And I'll preface that we are a polite family that appreciates good service but rarely complain when it doesn't happen. Unfortunately we got an unhappy waiter with a big chip on his shoulder and it ruined our experience. When he first came to our table, we hadn't made our selections so asked him to return which earned us a scowl. We were ready to order shortly after that but were ignored for quite some time so when he walked by out table (still ignoring us), I tapped him on the shoulder he continued walking and responded with a rude "I'll be right with you!". He eventually came back, didn't say a word so I looked at him waiting for him to say SOMETHING, which he didn't so we looked at each other for a while and finally I asked if we could order. That's pretty much how the evening went so I won't elaborate further but it took 20 minutes for me to get the martini I ordered with my meal and we had to ask the bus boy for rolls. I expect this type of service at Denny's, not The Ore House. For those of you who haven't been here, I still highly recommend it. But if you get a short waiter with short gray hair, a very large stomach and no rear end, ask to be reseated.

After reading the reviews, decided to go here. Salad bar is decent. We ordered 8oz prime rib. It wasn't the best I've ever had. It was just ok. Try their house special potatoes. That was the highlight of my dinner.

  • Monica V.

We made advance reservations to sit by the fireplace. It also had a view (in daytime) of trees and mountains. It met our expectations. It has a nice steakhouse feel and the service was great. My husband and I both ordered the filet mignon and lobster tail. We both enjoyed it...the house potatoes were yum and the salad bar that comes with the meal is a bonus. We also shared the brownie and vanilla ice cream Omg it was worth the treat! ! We will come back again next time were in town.

Never go wrong here. Jake was our server today. He was amazing. Great bottle of wine. Had the prime rib. Rib eye amazing as well. Chef cooked our medium rare steaks to perfection. It's a must when visiting steamboat. Thanks Ore House.

  • Ryan R.

Where do I start?!? Salad bar was disappointing. The "world famous" cinnamon rolls looked like they bought them at the city mart. The "fresh steam veggies" were green beans only cooked in butter. The house potato was a hash brown with runny cheese sauce fried in oil that needed to be changed weeks ago. So the steak has to be good right?? Wrong! Low quality chewy medium rare NY strip. They got the cook right, but it didn't help... Brushed my teeth the second I got back to the room.

Our group of six had an excellent dinner with Prime Rib, New York Strip, and two kinds of trout. Service was excellent by Bennett. Ambience was just so so, but overall experience was great. SH

First off make a reservation!!!!! And second it opens up at 5:30. But other than that it was a great experience. The wait staff was great and polite and more than one waiter/waitress would tend to the table. And last but not least the food. All I can say was superb!!! Had the porter house steak with crab meat and bearnaise sauce. It was cooked to perfection and tasted fabulous.

  • Julie C.

We all enjoyed 4th of July dinner here last night. They were able to accommodate our large group of 11 people at the last minute. The ambiance reminded me a classic western family restaurant. We all loved the salad bar. My favorites were the artichoke hearts, beets, baby corn, and fruit. It was nice that even the plates were chilled. We also liked the homemade cinnamon rolls! The entrees were all tasty, but a little pricey for the average-sized portions. I ordered the salmon, it was $25 and came with a piece of broccoli and a choice of potato or rice pilaf. The house potato was like a hash brown, the size of an ice cream scoop, and covered with a cheese sauce. The prime rib dinners started at $27. We all thought the kid's prime rib meals looked great and were almost the same size as the adult portions! Overall, the service was very good and it was a great experience for our first meal in Steamboat!

  • Zach S.

Neat atmosphere, historic building, friendly service, and quality steaks. I had the Steak Ore House, a center cut filet topped with crab meat and béarnaise. It was the perfect size and taste; I ordered it as rare as possible and the chef nailed it. I also recommend their house potatoes, which are flash fried hash brown balls covered in a light cheese sauce. Each entree comes with a potato option, a salad bar, and a vegetable. My wife ordered the ruby red trout and we were both surprised at the size of that sucker! Someone had a hell of a catch with that guy. We also had their crispy green beans sautéed in butter. Our waitress (Julie) was very nice and attentive. The only negative was that the Sesame Encrusted Seared Ahi Tuna appetizer was average, not bad, but we wouldn't order it again. Should have went with the calamari. This place is also family friendly, a rare quality of a decent steak house. If we want a good steak in Steamboat, The Ore House gets our vote...and apparently the vote of Steamboat locals as they just won Best Steak in Steamboat's "Best of the Boat" restaurant competition.

I was out in Steamboat with my wife and we were looking for a great place for dinner. We were told by the pleasant driver from the Meadows Lot. (I think his name was Seann) to try the Ore House so we did. The Steak Ore House was remarkable! It is a center cut filet wrapped in bacon and topped with crab meat and béarnaise. I order it medium rare and it was cooked just right. The plates were hot and the food was fresh. I believe our servers name was Paul and he was so delightful. He was filled with optimism ~! The scallops my wife had were marvelous some of the best I ever had. They had some type of sauce on them like an Asian BBQ sauce. I have never had them before but the server told me they are out of this world so I trusted Paul our attentive server. One of the best stops we had on our trip to Boat!! Nesta 26

An excellent experience. Eat outside if weather permits. Add the crab béarnaise sauce to whatever entrée you get. The service was excellent as well.

  • Heidi M.

First off they should offer you a Mint as you're leaving to get the brunt oil taste out of your mouth from their "homemade potatoes" I should've known when I was unimpressed from the bland taste of the calamari. However I still had high hopes for my steak..... Nope highly unimpressed with my chewy fillet that also had a very distinct burnt flavor. Not to mention the person dining with me also had a very chewy New York strip. Salad bar was weak, a four-year-old could've made the green beans. however the server was actually pretty decent also the only reason I gave this place one star. Seems like this place was good once upon a time but it's very gimmicky now. Not worth the money in my opinion. The manager on duty looks frightened to even come up to talk to tables.

  • Diana S.

Yummy and kid friendly! The salad bar was fresh, delicious and kept stocked. The steak was just perfect and the broccoli covered in butter. Baked potato was a little dry but that happens. The kids raved about the salad bar and called the chicken tenders BEST EVER :) I'd like to go back before we leave!

  • Shawn S.

We brought our ski club for dinner in their banquet room. There were about 40 of us and they did a great job keeping the meal going at a very good pace with excellent service. The prime rib was excellent, with my medium rare piece done perfectly. The bread and salad were very good.. The acoustics were a bit loud but there were a lot of us in the room.

  • Raleigh K.

Apps and prime rib were excellent, as was the creamy horseradish (good amount of bite to it) - pricing inline with what you would expect from a decent steakhouse. Our server Jacob was great - very attentive and definitely knew the menu well, he was a delight! Definitely coming back on next trip!!

We had great steak here. Salad was fresh. Overpriced though, and that's what'll keep us away next time.

  • Tara D.

One of my all-time favorite restaurants! This place never disappoints and I have always remembered it from any of my steamboat visits as a kid. Just as great now as it was years ago! The restaurant itself is fantastic, so much history through the building and decorations, including historical pieces, furniture on display and old photos. Each dining area is unique and feels small and inviting, like a family dining area. Our section had a fireplace and great view to the backyard through large windows. The food is excellent- can't go wrong with any of the meat, especially the steaks and my favorite, the prime rib! The house potato is delicious, definitely worth trying. The salad bar is very fresh and although a smaller selection, everything is high quality and well-kept. The service is always exceptional, very efficient and prompt, and staff is very friendly and knowledgable about menu choices.

First time at Ore House and it wont be my last...I will make my way back to Steamboat just to eat at Ore House....The food and the service was awesome! I had the a center cut filet topped with crab meat and béarnaise with the house potato. The house potato is a MUST! I had the Mahi Mahi on our second visit there (same trip) and they did great on that as well!

  • D S.

Excellent restaurant. We travel to Steamboat several times a year and I'm disappointed if we don't get into the Ore House for at least one meal. We have always had outstanding service and the food has always been top notch. The house potato is terrific, I was skeptical the first time I had it recommended and I enjoyed it so much I'd never consider anything else. They have a great menu and there's always a special that makes you consider ordering it, like smoked buffalo prime rib, it is awesome. Never had a steak overdone or undercooked, just how I ordered it.

We went to this restaurant with our family on a recent visit to Steamboat Springs. The restaurant was clean and friendly. The salad bar that comes with most entrees was good. The served tasty bread and rolls with dinner. The down side was the quality of the meat served. It was average at best. We did like house there house potato. I would not recommend this restaurant.

Fantastic for large parties, and the top of my list to visit when friends and family come to town. I almost always get the Prime Rib and its always great. Friendly and knowledgeable staff and a warm, inviting, atmosphere. I suggest requesting near the front fireplace and ordering a Mud Pie to share! Just writing this review makes me hungry for a great steak!!

Great place for a group to go for a great dinner, Steaks, salad bar, deserts are all good. Tell the staff if you are not in a rush and it's a great spot to enjoy drinks, be a little loud if you like and enjoy a night of casual dinning with class A food!!

  • Deon C.

When we arrived during the off season Diane asked if we had reservations. We did not since it was not a busy time of year and the website did not suggest that we needed them. Diane made a comment that they could seat us at a small table as if she was doing us a favor. When we looked around there were plenty of tables available. Service was great but the food was over cooked (chewy chicken and dry potatoes). Not impressed since there are many other choices in town and when you treat customers as if you are doing them a favor is not good business!!

Fantastic classic steakhouse ... Reminded me of something from my childhood with the 80's style salad bar , classic menu , and laid back ski town attitude ... If your looking for something hip and trendy this is not the place ... If u want a great meal and a nice place to hang and relax after a day of being out in the cold defiantly go to the Oar House ... Waiters were super nice and attentive and for just around 100 bucks for 2we had salad , app , entree , alcoholic drinks and Desert ... And the Prime Rib was great

    (5)
  • Tom H.

Food was great, Staff was excellent, just a shame that unlike other restaurants that have management ask most customers how is everything they only ask those who have logged a seating complaint......Next time you visit complain up front if you want anyone to care about how your meal is going

  • Bryan G.

I won't come back. The mai·tre d' was rude. Apparently eye contact is too much to ask for. How gracious of her to get us a seat! Where do I leave the tip? The steak is great. The atmosphere inside is depressing. Could you turn off a couple of the TV sets? The outdoors around the restaurant is nice. Poor beer selection (not much on tap.) The waiter we had was decent. DO NOT order fish here. Not worth it. Salad bar was okay. Cinnamon buns were mediocre. Unfortunately, it all feels a bit pricey for the atmosphere and especially the table we received. I'll take my hard earned money to another steak house that appreciates our business.

I don't know many of the fine dining restaurants in Steamboat Springs but this the Ore House was one my family and I happened upon and we have loved it! We make a point to go here every time we are in Steamboat and make sure that we keep ourselves busy until 5pm rolls around and the place opens. I feel this is one of those places that no matter what you order it is going to be awesome! I have had amazing salads, steaks and baked potatoes here. The desserts are of course excellent! I haven't eaten the seafood myself but my parents have gotten it and they rave about it! Definitely the place to go if you are tired of casual food in a casual restaurant which lets face it, there are plenty of those everywhere!

We having been going to Steamboat for skiing vacation for years and this place has been a consistently good experience. Taylor was our server and he was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed and were pleased with what we had. I didn't get the name of the bus boy but he was top notch as well. The menu is a little leaned toward beef, and those prices are a little high for the current market, but not too bad. I ordered the blackened trout which was excellent (not crazy with the spices) and a very generous portion. My daughter order the pork chop special which was well cooked (just through but not dried out) and lightly seasoned. My wife had the 8 oz. prime rib. It was cooked exactly to order (medium) and very juicy. Get the house potatoes! All in all this is a very enjoyable experience and they really make you feel welcome and cared for. We rent an condo when we are in Steamboat and tend to eat in a lot after a long day of skiing. But when we do go out for dinner Ore House is always a stop. Definitely make a reservation.

Service: friendly, flattering, attentive. Ambiance: dark, peaceful, western-themed. Food: burnt meat, burnt potatoes, salad bar good. Price: too expensive for what you get but we were so tired that we tried to enjoy it anyways. The other diners, mostly elderly couples, seemed very pleased. My husband really enjoyed the ribeye steak and house potatoes, but he didn't notice that the salad dressing was labeled on the side of the bar as Wasabi Ranch burning his taste-buds prior to eating the meal. Not a future destination even if we win the lottery. And, yes for some entrees the salad bar is an additional $7.00, add that to a the cheapest meal of a hamburger at $10.95 and hope you like it better than we did - not.

Went with the family and all had a wonderful meal. I had the Prime rib and it was delicious. Two of the group had Filet mignon and really enjoyed. The last member of the group had the Steak bits in teriyaki and he recommends. House potato is a tasty accompaniment. Broccoli served with each meal was prepared well. A salad bar Buffett is a nice way to start ad it had fresh ingredients. We split dessert between the four of us as the portion was huge. Service was friendly and fast. Highly recommend here

You can't beat this place for food. The prime rib is always exceptional and always get the house potato with your dish. Don't even need dessert with their homemade cinnamon rolls.

The place was recommended by the person working the front desk at the hotel we stayed in. What also helped is their ad in local paper for special deals around their opening time - they call it the "Sunset Menu." The discounts were not that huge, but the selection was good so we didn't mind. Staff: All the staff working there was superb! The manager was walking around the place non stop making sure everybody were happy and that staff was on top of it. The waiters were pretty much running - yes, they were busy at that time but not packed. Food: Menu was very nice with good selections for everyone's taste. We ordered the beef kebab and they were very juicy and tender. The sides were excellent as well - never thought that you can make wild rice taste any different depending on how you cook it - they did. The portions were just right - not much but just enough to maybe want some desert. The salad bar was basically a huge bucket (I don't know how else to call that bowl) of green salad and a bunch of self-serve toppings. Not quite what we expected when we saw a "salad bar" on the menu, but very fresh. Desert - we had just one to share - was humongous but very tasty and brought in very promptly, just like the rest of the items we ordered. Prices: Very adequate for what you get. It's not an upscale place and doesn't pretend to be (except for the food). The décor is very basic with wooden tables and benches. No white table cloth (or any table cloth all for that matter). The stuff runs around in regular clothes and branded shirts. However, a meat entry with two sides for around $20 is very fair in my book. Overall - very recommend them for dinner. Try to make it there between 5:30 and 6:30 for that Sunset Menu to be in effect.

This was not my first choice for dinner - after all, Steamboat Springs has a wonderful array of great restaurants. That being said, I was out-voted, so I went. If you, like my partner, prefer very heavy standard American fare with no bells or whistles, this is a great place. If you have a more international and adventurous palate like myself, you'll be a bit disappointed. It was a pretty standard old-school steak house of the kind you find in many western towns. Big slabs of beef, with the standard sides. The server was quick to arrive and return with drinks - the wine list was passable, but I went with a gin and tonic since they (big plus!) had Hendricks. The salad bar was basic - fresh items, but nothing special. I had the trout, which was quite good. I chose the rice pilaf, which was surprisingly greasy - I think they had very heavily buttered it. My dining companions had the top sirloin and the prime rib, with nothing but good to say. We did not have dessert - but then we did not have room! Overall, I would return, but would rather try other restaurants first.

Great Food, Cozy and Unique Atmosphere, my crew is still talking about it. Not sure why some of the other reviews are just average for the Ore House. My ski group of five liked it so much we went two times during our short trip in Steamboat. My older brother is more of a chain restaurant kind of guy, but he is still talking about the Ore House. Great entrees... we tried seafood, steak and chicken and everyone was happy with what they ordered. Also, be sure to try their speciality mashed potatoes. I can't remember what they are called, but ask your server, you WILL NOT be disappointed. The green beans were fantastic and the salad bar was one of the best I have had with extremely fresh ingredients and homemade dressings. After each dinner i left completely stuffed, the food was that good!

Sometimes you just want a good steak & this is the place. If you go early for there sunset menu you really get a deal. I like that you get a saad bar & not have to pay $7 extra for a salad. The plates are chilled, nice touch. If you can get a table in the main room by the window, you can look out at the ski mountain, beautiful alpenglow & as the lights fade the patio has evergreens with twinkling lights. There is also a cozy fireplace. The house potatoes are delicious too.

Best meal and service on our trip. Bennett was our server and he was outstanding. I ordered the veggie plate and had a few bites of my daughter's steak. The veggie plate was outstanding. A full roasted artichoke that was PERFECTLY cooked! Included salad bar and a potato. All 8 of us agreed this was our best meal of the trip and gave top notch marks to Bennett. We'll be back!

Our dinner here was excellent. The filet I ordered was so tender and luscious, it's as if I were eating butter. The rolls and salad bar were delicious. I enjoyed the atmosphere and though our waiter was a bit forgetful, we enjoyed our evening very much. Great for a date, thought it would be really expensive to bring the entire family. If you want really good food in Steamboat Springs, eat here! I'm glad we made it during our visit.

Very mediocre food, very high priced for this quality of food. Decent salad bar, and good service though.

A large group of us went here on a recent vacation. Everything was good, nothing spectacular, but very acceptable. The food isn't anything inspiring or creative, but what they cook they do well. My husband and I had the grilled trout, my son had the ribs. There is a decent salad bar that comes with most entrees. The early dinner menu has some better prices on a few dishes, though I noticed that some were only about $1 off of the regular menu price. They serve cinnamon rolls in their bread basket, which I skipped, so I can only say they looked tasty.

Did you ever visit the butcher block in SB before it closed? Well, we did and I think my best overall view of this restaurant is that it really reminds me of the old BB, but it is definitely better in terms of the ambience, food and service The ore house is a good place to get a really good piece of meat or fish, wash it down with something good to drink, and not have to worry about dressing up. The decor is old school / rough rider, etc... And the service is locally friendly We have eaten here several times over the past few years and it has been consistently good. The salads are serve yourself (that is always fun and you get what you want) They have a good selection of things to eat, with plenty of apps and desserts if you have the room. The drink menu is also good, but I tend to stick to the beers when eating here Go ahead - you will enjoy the food and leave satisfied

Great salad bar, just avoid the fish! Ordered the trout dish (and trout generally has a very distinctive flavor) and am sad to say that it was as bland and watery as fish fillets that you can buy in a box in the freezer aisle...horrible waste of $30. However, my friend let me try a piece of his prime rib, which was one of the best I have ever had! Very good service, and I truly believe this is a good place to eat, just don't order fish!

I could not be more pleased with this restaurant. My parents flew into Colorado and I brought them to Steamboat Springs for a few days. We ate out each meal at various restaurants and we all agree that the Ore House was, by far, the best. Outside the area/yard was beautiful and well manicured. The ambiance inside was great with well spaced tables and several different rooms to break up what i can only imagine would be a large crowd on busy evenings. Each entrée comes with a "smallish" but well stocked salad bar. Also, fresh biscuits and cinnamon rolls were served upon being sat. Not sure I understand why cinnamon rolls were served with dinner, but let me state, I am not complaining!! In addition there was some great priced specials. As we came in right before 6PM we had an option to have the "Sunset Special" which offered several choices (from fish, steak, vegetarian, and others that I cannot remember now) all priced at $15.95. There was also a nightly special that was a 3-course meal for $19.95. For that special, there was just as many choices as with the 15.95 special. We started with the Seared Ahi tuna for an appetizer, which tasted like we were in a beach town resort instead of a mtn town resort. Awesome! My mother got the Teriyaki flavored, bacon wrapped scallops. My dad got the Red Rocky Mountain Trout with a side of crab and hollandaise to pile on top. I got perhaps the best vegetarian plate I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying...it included a WHOLE artichoke! uh...happiness. I must comment on the service as well....our server, Jeff, was extremely personable and very attentive. Do ask for him if you go this this restaurant...you won't regret it!!

A pleasant surprise on our first night in Steamboat. It hadn't been recommended by several friends who frequent Steamboat, so we were a little hesitant. No worries. I ordered the 8 oz prime rib. Normally, I don't order anything less than 12 oz , not out of hunger, but it takes 12 oz to get the full flavor. Well, my 8 oz were delicious and full of flavor. Their house potato as well as their baked po's were done perfectly. The salad bar could use a little updating, but definitely adequate.

I return to the Ore House every time I'm in Steamboat. It's that one ski-town steak dinner you just have to have. The atmosphere is rustic western and fitting. The menu offers a delicious selection of steaks, prime rib, and fish. I recommend the prime rib which one may order by the oz. that best suits your appetite. And the house potato is a seasoned, mashed potato concoction with a drizzle of cheese. Not to be ignored! The salad bar offers a great selection and comes with every meal. you really can't find a better steak restaurant in Steamboat! It is a little pricey but overall it's worth it.

Very charming but oozes worn outiness. We did enjoy it but it was very pricy. Salat bar was good and had a good selection. Cinnamon rolls which they apparently are famous for are were a little tasteless. Hubbie had the Elk steak and they recommended the peber rub. That was very overpowering and basically made the taste of venison disappear. Don't do that if you actually enjoy venison. I had the prime rib and had chosen the smallest size as I figured that I could eat left overs from our children (didn't realize portions so small that there was no leftovers). 2/3 of the prime rib was pure FAT so I only had 4-5 bites of meat. I had ordered the housepotato which sounded really good, but one couldn't taste the cilantro and basically it was a deepfried potato full of sticky gravy. Not my style. Wasn't very impressed by my meal. One child had the Alaska King Crabs. They didn't smell too fresh. For a $40 portion for a small child I would have expected more than he could eat, but he was still hungry after the 3 small legs he got. That was a rip off!!!! Our other son wanted ribs and I wanted to order the appetizer ribs for him and add on salat bar and a potato. But waiter convinced my hubbie to give him the rib dinner for 3 times as much, and he basically ended up getting the same. Our children said the best part of the meal was the baked potatoes with the cream. We asked for wet towels for the children and our waiter did add a nice touch by actually heating napkins with lemon and water in the microwave. But when we needed an extra wet towel then we had to ask several times before getting it. Our waiter was busy at other tables and the other staff couldn't figure it out. Our waiter was good at selling ad ons and he was attentive to details but he had too many tables so there could be far between service. Also, we noticed the hostesses clean and prepare another table next to us and I just hope they did ours a little better than that. At the end it was almost impossible to get the bill and pay. I started out with 3 stars but now lowered it to 2 stars because as I recall the evening I am not too impressed, especially not at their rib off prices! My hubbie had 2 magarita's and they were served in a small wine glass so really it was 2 less than half magarita's. 2 adults, 2 children, 1 appetizer to share between us all, 4 entres and no desert. Ended up approx $200! AUCH - and worst of all I was not full after this meal

We had an amazing experience here. The steaks were great! Be sure to get the house topping on them as well as the house potato. Staff was amazing!

In my opinion, you go here for the atmosphere more than anything else. It's just a really cozy, old western steakhouse. The decor inside really fits with the theme and the outside of the building. The food is decent. Its pretty standard steakhouse food, nothing amazing. And they are keeping America fat by putting delicious cinnamon rolls in the bread basket. But that said, you don't come to Ore house for a light meal. A bit expensive for the ambiance and amount of kids in the restaurant, but of you want a good solid country meal, I'd recommend.

salad bar and the house potato goes perfect with any side of beef. Make sure to order extra Bernese sauce so you can dip your arm in it after you've stuffed yourself silly. I have been going to this restaurant for years and have always had a great meal and good service. I have also had a company party here and the catering was delicious. If you are looking for a real western ski-town steak dinner, this is the place to go.

I was refered to this by a friend who is a local from Steamboat Springs and he classified it as "it is a good mid class steakbar". After I ate here I have to say the same thing. The blackened rib eye that I ordered (medium-rare is the only way to go) was perfectly cooked. There are two reasons that this place gets four stars. First off the appetizers in comparison to main dishes were just ok as with the baked potato. Secondly the salad bar, which is good, made it feel like a Coral West and sorry I can't rate a steakhouse as five stars when at one point gives a buffet feeling. But again as my boy said it is a solid steakhouse, but don't be expecting the best steakhouse.

Awesome greetings from the hostesses who gave us the table we reserved, which is a round booth; intimate and quiet in the front dining room. Our friendly server was very with our selections. We has the 8 oz lobster tail and the special, blackened Mahi Mahi. The experience was great from the ahi appetizer to the large and fresh salad bar to the cinnamon rolls to our entrees to the mountain mud pie finale. We especially noted the manager checking for meal quality at every table. Even though this is a casual dining experience, the proprietors are serious about providing us with a first class dining experience.

This was our first visit there.the salad bar was fairly basic but took the Place of appetizers. The elk was a treat but the beans were bland Trout was tastily but my wife wanted a crispy skin which was not the case Brother in law ordered a strip steak which was tasty and done to his liking Niceatmosphere and history to the place Food was a little on pricey side but still a good value

Okay, my boss says I give too many 5 star reviews, but there is no way I can give any less here. My server was Geoff. He is really good (gave meaningful and helpful suggestions). I had the Elk Loin with Lingonberry sauce! I gotta say it was amazing. Geoff suggested medium rare, and it was spot on! Tender and juicy. Geoff suggested peppercorn rub and that was very well received! I also asked for the House Potato (shredded red potato with cilantro, made into a ball and flash fried, smothered in a cheesy sauce), yummy! And when I was seated, they brought me a cinnamon roll. Homemade with delicious sugar glaze! Western themed, but playing upbeat modern music. It works. Also, in the salad bar (which was fairly standard) they had (Drum roll appropriate here); Wasabe Ranch Dressing), it lifted the salad from "meh" to OMG! So good. So if you ever visit Steamboat Springs (and who wouldnt) you must put the Ore House on your must see list!

This place reminded me of The Greenbriar north of Boulder- riding on its reputation with OK food, nothing special, at above-average prices. It was not objectionable, but we won't go back.

I would say the Ore House is solidly middle of the road. Our waiter was friendly, but not super attentive. I ordered the grilled salmon. It was grilled salmon and I would say on par with a simple meal I might cook at home. My boyfriend ordered the sirloin. It was cooked how he asked. For us it was overall a very forgettable meal and dining experience.

Yum! I've been here twice, and both times were excellent. Once, by myself at the bar, I went for the surloin off the Sunset menu for $15.95. I was worried that wouldn't be enough to fill me up, but I was pleasantly surprised. The rub I chose, forget what it was, was a bit overpowering, but other than that, it was a very tasty piece of meat. No rub was really necessary. Though the main course filled me up, I had to try the mud pie someone recommended. Oreo cookie crust, coffee ice cream, toasted almonds and amareto? HEAVEN! Needless to say, I ordered it again next time. Next time was with the fam, and we were instructed to go all out. I was happy to comply with the bacon-wrapped filet. I've had a few filets in my time, and usually I'm left wondering why I bothered to go to a restaurant. Not so this time. And the portion was on the larger side for the price. Though the flash-fried potato ball covered in cheese sauce is good and interesting, I'm a mashed potato kind of guy, and I was a little annoyed that they simply don't offer them, especially at that price point. The salad bar was very tasty and fresh -- I had to stop myself from coming back for more. The cinnamon rolls were awesome, but I too wonder why they serve them before the meal. Regular rolls were meh. Didn't taste homemade. Service was very good both at the bar and our table of six. Bottom Line: After writing this review, I wish tomorrow was payday. I'll be back!

Ore House was way too expensive and barely edible. The salad bar was ok. The wait staff gives excellent stink-eye and makes you feel like a nusence to wrap it all together nicely. The only plus was the bus boy was nice and prompt. Pick any restaurant in town and you'll get better service and food at a much better price.
